Saco River (ME)
If there was one way i were to describe the Saco river it would be "a party river". You will likely be boating among many beer drinking college students. We went in mid august and were literally surrounded by them. When trying to find a camping place keep in mind that literally ever bend in the river will have someone camping on it. There are so many people you feel as if your at camp. This can both be a plus and a minus to the experience.
There are tons of swinging ropes and places to swim, the surrounding land is also good for walks and explorations. The only real note that can be made is to be careful of the many highly intoxicated people in the evening. There were drunk fights and arguments till about 4-5 am we could hear down the river.
The river is very slow moving and outside of swimming and hanging out it is actually rather boring. Do not go to this river for exceptional canoing but rather for partying and relaxing.
Start Location: You will be charged a small fee for parking. Canoe rental is available at the spot.
